Instinctively we reach out to touch wood, to run our fingers over its’ surface, willing it to tell us of its’ story. Instinctively we recognise that there is a story there to be told. It is a story of time and space, of sun, wind and rain. Written with the temporarily fluid earth as it surged up within the growing tree, to become the unique form which only that tree, in that moment could produce. To nature however the pattern we perceive there is of no consequence, just as to nature the sea shell abandoned on a beach is no more than waste calcium. It is when it is found and admired that it becomes an object of wonder and aesthetic pleasure.

When working creatively with wood I try to bring to the form that freshness of the found object.
