Grafting creativity onto the established root of traditional furniture making.

Ash and Sycamore for the perfect end to the perfect day,

and relaxed beginning of the next.

Brushed Cherry over smooth Sycamore and illuminated interior both shows and hides.

Flowing Sycamore supports robust Ash for harmonious circular eating.

Cherry frame supports an impressionable dark Sycamore seat,

or cushion for comfortably supported sitting.

Geometric linier, Sycamore setting for rugged Elm elements.

If you've got it flaunt it.

Treasure on earth V treasure in heaven, Gilding & decay, Sycamore and Douglas Fir.

With function as the central purpose for furniture, aesthetic considerations

are usually centred on creating a wrapping for that requirement.

Alternatively it is enjoyable to give critical consideration to all the elements and construction

of a piece, resulting in an ‘object‘ pleasing in its own right, in addition to fulfilling a function.

When doing this I concentrate on the material richness that is wood itself,

focusing on features of grain pattern and colour, introducing texture,

gilded highlights, light, intrusive views and stylised forms.

This grafts the creative experience of making gallery and themed exhibition pieces

onto the firmly established root of traditional furniture making skills.

I look forward to exploring this more in future furniture projects.
